How It All Started…
The story of Community Church is a story of pioneering.
In the 1950's, when Central Topeka was still developing, a young pastor from North Topeka saw the opportunity to reach young families who were moving into the new housing developments near Washburn University. He took a risk, and the newly planted church grew rapidly!
In the 60's & 70's, many within the church experienced the power of the Holy Spirit in a new way, and the church once again pioneered in helping people encounter the power of God.
Fast forward to 2019...
Community Church finds itself without a pastor and unsure of its future.
Jon & Brogan, who had both spent several years in campus ministry with Called To Greatness, moved to Topeka with a church plant in their hearts. Just as they were preparing to launch, some folks at Community Church reached out, asking (at first) if they and their team could guest speak. Then it was, "Can your team lead our services for a month?" Then, in August 2020, the game-changer:
"Hey, maybe we should merge?"
After months of praying and discussing all the possibilities, these two quite different groups of people couldn't escape the obvious: God seems to have orchestrated this whole plan. And the two became one.
In November 2020, the newly formed church got to work forming plans to relaunch as new church, built on the heritage of Community's history, and pioneered once again.
